Wide Eye 'Wide Eye' was launched in 1997 by Marshall Direct Learning, as a multi media interactive programme consisting of a series of educational videos, books, cassettes and toys for children . Sally of Mimics Productions created the puppets for 'Wide Eye'. The characters featured in these videos are an owl, a chinchilla, a komodo dragon baby and orang-utang. Each puppet head and some hands were sculpted in clay and cast in latex, painted and furred. Each body is carved or constructed foam and furred and the owls chest detail painted and airbrushed. They all have eye blinks except the chincilla, all eyes are hand painted on wood or clear vacuformed plastic. The variations in fur on the owls feathering was made by sewing together strips of alternate fur, then stitching the feather shape across the stripes and turning them through and individually stitching to the master wing shape or to his body. |
