Playdays In replacement of the children's television programme 'Playschool' - Playdays was launched by BBC TV/Felgate Productions in October 1988 and is currently shown five days a week on BBC TV, on Nickleodeon and also BBC Choice and CBeebies. The three main characters are Peggy Patch, Poppy the Cat and Why Bird and it features a different 'stop' every day; Why Bird Stop, Playground Stop, Roundabout Stop, Patch Stop, Poppy Stop and Tent Stop. As well as the television show, there is also a 'Playdays' stage show which travels to theatres across the UK. Mimics Productions created several of the puppets for Playdays including - 'Sally the dog', 'Honk' and 'Little Honk' & 'The Worm' (see below). They also created the replacement puppet copies of 'Morris' and 'Millie' from 'The Roundabout Stop'. Sally was the puppeteer of 'Peggy Patch' and other various characters in the children's television programme Playdays. She travelled from Austria, across the UK as far as the Outer Hebrides, filming one hundred and thirty programmes a year. In 1994, Sally was given the job to make Peggy talk and walk. Peggy had previously just been a silent rag doll with a human presenter. Sally got the job as she was a farmers daughter and Peggy was always out and about in the open air, and Sally was used to lying about in mud! Sally also voiced many other characters whilst filming 'The Roundabout Stop' as there were so many guest characters and puppets, especially one appearance as the voice and puppeteer of Poppy's pirate cousin 'Blackpaws' (see below). She also wrote two Roundabout scripts and appeared in person in several of 'The Tent Stop' programmes. Sally cut and made many of Peggy's miniature 'out and about' clothes, Peggy got very trendy you know! |
